Underfloor Insulation

What Is Underfloor Insulation?

Underfloor insulation allows you to insulate the void under a suspended floor. This helps to keep the heat in and stop drafts from coming from below your house.

Most suspended timber floors comprise of floorboards laid on top of timber floor joists. These draughts are often reduced slightly by liners laid below timber or laminate floor finishes, but these will not stop the draughts completely as the edges are not typically taped to make them airtight.

Underfloor insulation will seal these gaps and help your home heat up faster and retain the heat longer – saving you money on your energy bills – 16% of your heat can be lost through an uninsulated floor!

As well as keeping you warm in the winter, Underfloor insulation is also effective in the summer. Your home stays cool in the summer. Insulation doesn’t trap heat in, instead it reduces heat loss

Underfloor insulation is also easy to retrofit – we typically use an access hatch to gain entry into the suspended floor space, From here we install insulation between the floor joists and fit netting to the underside to prevent sagging. If you do not have an access hatch we will create one, usually in a cupboard out of the way.

Benefits of Underfloor insulation

Thermal Efficiency – Introducing underfloor insulation into your property means that your home or office is going to be more thermally efficient. This basically means that it will be able to retain desirable temperatures all year round.

Reduced Energy Bills – Make less use of your heaters, you will naturally receive smaller bills from your gas and electricity companies. This translates to more money in your pocket and becomes a way for you to recoup your initial investment in underfloor insulation.

Contribute to a Better Planet – By using less gas and electricity, you help preserve our planet’s natural resources. This is something that is desperately needed in today’s worldly climate. Not only are we taking more than we need, but we are doing it in excessive quantities. By fitting underfloor insulation and lessening how much you use your artificial heating and cooling devices, you are helping the earth.

Preventing Cold Air From Entering Through The Floor- Cracks and holes in floorboards allow air to creep in through the floor, making a home colder in winter. By installing underfloor insulation, you are essentially creating a layer between external temperatures and your floorboards, which prevents air from creeping in through the floors.
